Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 16

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

The Wisdom of Kabbalah and Philosophy

I am not an enthusiast of formative philosophy, since I dislike theoretically based studies [conjectures of the human mind, not founded on practical studies], and it is well known that most of my contemporaries agree with me for we are too familiar with such foundations [we have suffered throughout our history], which are rickety foundations [not based on practice]; and when the foundation fluctuates, the whole building tumbles [this is why philosophy is constantly changing, thereby exposing its past fallacy].

Therefore, I [as a Kabbalist and not a philosopher] have come here to speak only through critique of empirical reason.

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 15

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

The Wisdom of Kabbalah and Philosophy

However, understanding the meaning of the word “spirituality” [something of a different nature other than our material world, its sensations and thoughts] has nothing to do with philosophy. This is because how can they discuss something that they have never seen or felt? What do their rudiments [research and conclusions about something they have never perceived] stand on?

If there is any definition that can tell spiritual [properties of bestowal and love] from corporeal [receiving and hatred], it belongs only to those who [by altering their nature from receiving to bestowing] have attained a spiritual thing [obtained a property of bestowal] and felt it [through the property of bestowal a new attitude to their surroundings, meaning the spiritual world]. These are [only] the genuine Kabbalists [since such changes are possible solely through practical application of the wisdom of Kabbalah]; thus, it is the wisdom of Kabbalah that we need.

If You Are Worried About Your Fate

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Lately people often ask me, “What is the science of Kabbalah?” And I am unable to give them a simple definition in one sentence. How do we explain what we are learning? Is it to love the neighbor?

Answer: We are learning how to reveal the Upper Force which controls us. According to Baal HaSulam’s definition, “Kabbalah is the revelation of the Creator to the creatures.” Love for the neighbor is only a means. Revelation of your evil inclination is also a means, and the Torah is a means for correcting that inclination. The result of all these efforts is the revelation of the Creator.

However, a regular person will be confused by the word “Creator” and is likely to assume that it has to do with religion. Therefore, we should explain that there is a force in our world that controls everything and puts everything in motion, and we need to study it.

In fact, our fate depends on this. The science of Kabbalah reveals that Upper Force to us and then we begin to understand everything that happens to us in life. This explanation is more comprehensible to people because everyone is concerned with their fate.

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 11

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages of the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The comments within brackets are mine.

The Reality Contained in the Wisdom of Kabbalah

I have already written in several places that there is not a single word of our sages, not even in the prophetic wisdom of Kabbalah, that relies [exclusively] on theoretical bases [are based on reflection detached from matter]. This is because [everything comes only from one’s personal practical attainment based on sensation and one’s investigation].
– Baal HaSulam, “Body and Soul

The need for Kabbalah is great [in order to attain the purpose of creation which we will have to achieve willingly or not, as it is predetermined in the Thought of Creation] and hence, we must know it [for choosing a preferable path of correcting our egoism not by suffering but by the Light] as it is said: “Know today and bring into your heart that the Lord is the Creator of all.” [That is, put the Creator, the property of bestowal and love, into your heart, your desires]. Meaning we should know [attain by ourselves practically] not just through faith [speculatively, theoretically], but through notions aligned with the heart [desires].

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 10

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages of the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The comments within brackets are mine.

The Reality Contained in the Wisdom of Kabbalah

Life [sensing one’s own existence] of any spiritual object is determined by the measure of its attainment [of the Creator, the property of bestowal and love, that is, connection with the whole universe].
– Baal HaSulam, Pri Hacham, Igrot (Letters), Letter 17

It is a grave mistake to think that the language of Kabbalah [like other mystical languages] uses abstract [unfounded] names. On the contrary, it touches only upon the actual [clearly perceived and attained in its fullness, up to the very source of all names, the Creator]…

This is our [Kabbalistic] law: All that we do not attain [clearly in the mind and in sensations, at the very least like we perceive our world], we do not name [we do not assign definitions to it since we lack clear attainment of its qualities].

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 9

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

All the Teachings in the World Are Included in the Wisdom of Kabbalah

They have no scientific solution as to how a spiritual object can have any contact with physical atoms to bring them into any kind of motion. All their wisdom did not help them find a bridge on which to cross that wide and deep crevice that spreads between the spiritual entity and the corporeal atom. Thus, science has gained nothing from all these metaphysical methods.

To move a step forward in a scientific manner here, all we need is the wisdom of Kabbalah. This is because all the teachings in the world are included in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

[While Kabbalah explains everything, it is only for the one who is ready to apply it in practice. This is because only when a person transforms his egoistic properties into altruistic ones, can he realize that the entirety of reality exists only subjectively in his perception, and that his properties define it completely. The whole of reality is the perception of his properties in comparison to the properties of the Upper Light.]

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 8

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

All the Teachings in the World Are Included in the Wisdom of Kabbalah

Since the whole of the wisdom of Kabbalah speaks of the revelation of the Creator [the reason for the Creator’s concealment], naturally, there is nothing more successful teaching for its task. [The whole of reality is the Creator. The present reality is His concealment. The only real action is revelation of Him.]
– Baal HaSulam, “The Teaching of the Kabbalah and Its Essence

However, understanding the meaning of the word, “spirituality,” [sensed in the property of bestowal and love] has nothing to do with philosophy. This is because how can they discuss something that they have never seen or felt? [After all, they do not have a goal to be corrected and do not research the new reality in the corrected properties.] What do their rudiments [about the attainment of the Upper World, the Creator] stand on?

If there is any definition that can tell spiritual from corporeal, it belongs only to those who have attained a spiritual thing and felt it. These are [only] the genuine Kabbalists; [this is because they are the only ones who are engaged in self-correction and after that, they sense and research the Upper World according to their similarity to it] thus, it is the wisdom of Kabbalah that we need.

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 6

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

All the Teachings in the World Are Included in the Wisdom of Kabbalah

All the teachings in the world are included in the wisdom of Kabbalah. [Kabbalah is based on the attainment of one initial force which is the source of all the forces and qualities that flow out of it. Therefore, Kabbalah is the source of the sciences that examines these secondary forces and qualities.]
– Baal HaSulam, The Freedom

The greatest wonder about this wisdom [Kabbalah] is the integration in it: All the [separate] elements of the vast reality are incorporated in it, until they come into a single thing—the Almighty, and all of them together. [A wonderful characteristic of attainment consists of the gradual unification of all of the opposite and different objects, forces, and qualities which, to the extent of one’s own correction and attainment, rouse in the one who attains a sense of perfection and eternity.]
– Baal HaSulam, The Teaching of the Kabbalah and Its Essence

There is no other wisdom in the world [except Kabbalah] where matters are so fused and intertwined by way of cause and effect, primary and consequential, as is the wisdom of Kabbalah, connected head to toe just like a long chain [as a single and whole creation].

Kabbalists On The Essence Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah, Part 4

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

What Is The Basis Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah?

What does the wisdom revolve around? This question comes to the mind of every right-minded person [because by asking the question about the meaning of life, he will definitely arrive at the need to reveal the Creator, and that means to the science of Kabbalah].

To properly address it, I will provide a reliable and lasting definition: This wisdom [Kabbalah] is no more and no less than a sequence of roots [causes and sources], which hang down by way of cause and consequence, by fixed, determined rules, interweaving to a single, exalted goal described as “the revelation of His Godliness [the quality of bestowal and love] to His creatures in this world” [over the course of this life or in subsequent lives if a person does not reveal the Creator fully in this life].

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

What Is The Basis of the Wisdom of Kabbalah?

What is the wisdom of Kabbalah? As a whole, the wisdom of Kabbalah concerns the revelation of Godliness, arranged on its path in all its aspects—those that have emerged in the worlds and those that are destined to be revealed and in all the manners that can ever appear in the worlds to the end of time.
