Weekly Torah Portion – 12.30.11

The difference between spirituality and corporeality is that in spirituality the intention is first and foremost and the action is only meant to implement the intention. Without an intention there is no action. Even an intention by itself is an action.
So every word we read in The Book of Zohar should be with an intention throughout the text. We should only think about the intention and be in it, while the text “flows” downwards, as if we are swimming in a river and need to constantly control and manage ourselves: How and in what direction are we swimming?
Without an intention we immediately lose the action. So, the intention should be above and the action below both in the way we see it and in priority.
We must constantly think about the intention: What do I want from it, how do I aim the forces that are evoked while reading The Zohar together with the friends, and what do I want as a result of their influence?
If we don’t focus their influence on us, there is no result.

Question: How does the Creator help us defeat the “Greeks” within us? After all, the “Israel” within me (a person who yearns for the Creator) seems so helpless facing them.
Answer: Yes, it is said that an old foolish king and a clever child struggle with each other. Our nature is the evil inclination, the thick egotistic shell in which one tiny point is hidden, and it has no way of breaking out. This is why we have to awaken ourselves!
You are like a little worm sitting inside a bitter radish or an apple. How can you get out? It is impossible. It surrounds you on all sides and there is no way out. You cannot do anything against such forces.
But if there are more friends like you inside, and each one has a point in the heart, then you collect all these points, read The Book of Zohar, and connect to it wanting to understand what is going on and what the Creator wants from us. This way you connect with the upper system and draw the Surrounding Light that reforms.
Then you have a chance, but only thanks to the Light. The Light is the Creator that is revealed to you.

It says that a person should write the Torah on his heart. That is, a person discovers everything that we read about in the Torah (in The Book of Zohar) by being in that same system of connections between the souls, in his relation towards that system. He has to uncover the whole book of the Torah. Everything that is written in it is gradually, step by step, revealed to him.
Kabbalists describe this using several languages, in several ways, in order to convey to us all the levels of the full connection: the root level (Shoresh), the first (Aleph), second (Bet), third (Gimel), and fourth (Dalet) levels. But ultimately, they tell us how a Kabbalist, a person who attains spirituality, discovers this network of connection that ties him to the other souls, and how he returns to the correct connection with these souls: a connection of mutual guarantee. This is what The Book of Zohar writes about.
