“Is peace between Israel and Palestinians out of reach?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is peace between Israel and Palestinians out of reach?

Peace between Israel and any other nation depends on the Jewish people being at peace with each other.

In the past, Israeli Jews were once united in times of war. Today, even war fails to unite us.

There is no need for us to fight anyone. We will finish ourselves off with our own hands.

Until we understand that everything depends on uniting above our divisions and discovering a common love, we will have no peace and calm with our neighbors.

How does it work?

It works because we are a special nation that was established not on biological ties, but on achieving the idea of “love your friend as yourself,” and it is that example of unity that will let us function as a healthy organ in the world.

If we achieve such love for each other, then Palestinians will have no drive to fight us, and in general, the hatred against us will subside.

If we wish to be at peace with Palestinians and the entire world, we first need to be at peace with each other.

“Can a dream predict something?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Can a dream predict something?

Dreams are when our brain assorts impressions from our experiences that need a certain sensory and mental rearrangement.

I understand that many people delve into interpreting dreams, and use them to predict the future, but I personally hold no such beliefs.

I never deal with dreams. It was the same with my teacher, Kabbalist Baruch Ashlag (Rabash). When I asked him about dreams, he said that the wisdom of Kabbalah, which is what I learned from him, has nothing to do with dreams or their explanation.

That being said, there was a time when one of my fellow students visited a fortune teller who stated that she no longer saw our teacher, Rabash, beyond 1994. And it indeed turned out to be the case.

We also asked Rabash about it, and he said that he did not want to take it into account. That is, the correct approach of a person walking the spiritual path is not to consider such phenomena.

“What makes you hate people’s ego?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What makes you hate people’s ego?

A major problem with today’s world is that everyone blames everyone else.

If we, however, view ourselves as living in a completely interconnected and interdependent system, then everyone in that system is to blame: no one is right or wrong. If there is evil in the world, it is an outcome of every one of us.

Imagine that we are all cogwheels of the same machine. No single cogwheel can escape reward and punishment, because they are all connected to each other and mutually dependent. In such a setup, we cannot say that someone must turn or force others to turn because of others, but all move simultaneously. As such, we each need to undergo a certain correction and calibration of the way we conduct ourselves: to reach a mutual decision to stop turning in opposite directions and to start turning in the same direction, where we each primarily consider the benefit of others and the whole system that we are parts of.

Everyone is thus accountable for the way the world has turned out. There are no criminals or victims. We are all equally responsible for everything taking place, good and bad. We reach such an understanding when we see that we live in an integral world, which is represented by a circle that has no beginning or end. We thus have no single person we can point our finger at to blame for our problems. We each contribute to everything unfolding in humanity.

We have to reach the view of nature as a whole, interconnected and interdependent system, and to treat everyone differently than how we currently treat them: where instead of prioritizing self-benefit at their expense, we instead prioritize their benefit over self-benefit.

There is thus no ego of another person that we can justifiably hate but we need to reach the realization that I am the only criminal in the world. From that point on, I can start correcting my own ego and start developing a new attitude and perception of the world. I will then also start seeing a whole new harmonious and peaceful picture of the world open up.

“What exactly is fascism? What is wrong with it?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What exactly is fascism? What is wrong with it?

The word “fascio” means linking a bundle together. Fascism is thus a certain unity of people, but a unity with no correction of our egoistic desires.

Our every desire is egoistic, i.e., a desire to serve ourselves at the expense of others. If we make no moves toward correcting our egoistic desires so that instead of our aiming to self-benefit in our unity at the expense of other groups and nations, then our unity is built on the basis of opposition to and hatred of others.

That is the problem with fascism. The result is mutual destruction.

The solution to this flawed form of unity is to unite not on the basis of an ego that opposes others, but on the basis of the fundamental laws of nature: laws of unconditional giving and love.

There can be no true and lasting unity if we fail to connect through the laws of nature that bond us together before our egoistic perceptions give us a picture of division and detachment from one another.

The more we develop in incongruence with the laws of nature, the more we will experience the detrimental, destructive and warring clashes of our egos that grip us in a perpetual tug of war. That is, we will increasingly suffer from the fact that we lack the wisdom of how to unite in a way that brings us lasting harmony and peace, and our increasing suffering will gradually breed in us a stronger and more pinpointed need for such unity.

“What do you think are the responsibilities of a school principal?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What do you think are the responsibilities of a school principal?

Other than being well-educated and having experience, a school principal is a person who needs to understand children’s and teenagers’ characters.

They need to be special people in that they have patience, an understanding of human nature, and knowledge of how to modulate the school atmosphere.

School principals need to make room for everyone and try to reveal among everyone a tendency toward a positive connection, creating a peaceful school climate.

It is quite a complicated role and I am not sure that there are many such people.

“Can plants really talk to one another?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Can plants really talk to one another?

A research team from Tel Aviv University recently discovered that plants make sounds. They stated that the plants’ sounds are like clicks with the same intensity as human speech at frequencies above the range of human hearing. Various animals like bats, mice and insects can pick up the plant sounds, but we cannot.

So what do plants talk to each other about?

Everything created in nature is the desire to enjoy life. Plants thus communicate to one another the extent by which they can enjoy, what they should be cautious of, and that their communication would benefit other plants because they feel themselves in a single field.

It is not only plants. Every atom, molecule and rock has a life of its own and elicits various forms of communication according to its place in the system.

What does this mean for us, humans?

We need to learn how to rise above our egoistic desires, where we each seek to enjoy at the expense of one another, which makes us mutually reject each other.

Instead of rejecting each other, we should learn how to positively connect and complement one another. We would then exist in nature as in a single field where we discover a single force.

The single force that we come to eventually discover wants us to positively connect to each other with relations of mutual consideration. By doing so, we would experience the harmony and perfection of that field. It is written about such a state that “the wolf shall dwell with the lamb.” That is, at a certain point, all parts of creation enter into a state of mutual complementarity and peace. That time comes when we—human beings—will want it. By wanting to rise above our egoistic desires and enter into mutual complementarity among all people, we then compel the rest of the parts of nature to do the same, and we then come to experience nature’s eternity and perfection.

“Is it fair to push your child into activities they don’t want to do?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is it fair to push your child into activities they don’t want to do?

A child’s upbringing should take place under the influence of the surrounding society.

Parents are a very important aspect of our upbringing, but in principle, in any society children are educated not by their parents, but by their surrounding societies and communities, i.e., by a great big family.

We are influenced from the moment we are in our mother’s wombs. We are then born and raised close to our mothers, and afterward, we move away a little and our education takes place under social influences.

In other words, first comes our inner animalistic development, and then we undergo a period of nursing until the age of three in which we are still non-socially-developed beings. Then, from the age of three, our education includes society.

When we are under society’s influence, we should seemingly show no trace of our parents’ influence. Society then shows us that our social interaction and integration with society is important. Such is the correct form of education, especially in our era when we are becoming a globally interconnected and interdependent society.

Therefore, the more we teach children the art of communication and integration with society, the more benefit they will reap. Society will then determine the kinds of activities that the children will want to engage in.

However, such development takes place together with others. It then becomes easier, more interesting and more attractive for children to engage in various activities. They will then gladly participate in the activities that society deems enjoyable, without parental pressure.

“What are the greatest quotes about love?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What are the greatest quotes about love?

My teacher, Kabbalist Baruch Ashlag (Rabash), used to say about love that it is like an animal that you have to feed all the time, and then it will grow. Love grows out of mutual concessions.

“How do you maintain a balance in life?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: How do you maintain a balance in life?

The still, vegetative and animate levels of nature are the only ones in a state of balance, because they have no free choice. They make no decisions as to whether they should behave one way or another, but they behave according to their inborn nature.

We people, however, act according to our decisions that are higher than our inborn nature. We thus use these levels of nature—still, vegetative and animate, which are below our human level—egoistically, bending them however we wish for personal benefit.

We thus destroy and empty the planet, plant life, animals, and eventually also people, due to the egoistic way we relate to each other and nature.

The system we live in was set up so that we reach a state of mutual consideration, encouragement and support. That is the key to entering into a state of balance with nature.

By acting contrarily, with calculations of self-benefit overriding those of benefiting each other and nature, we then knock ourselves out of balance with nature.

Then, we experience this imbalance as suffering on personal, social and economic scales, and also as ecological blows, whether it be earthquakes, floods, wildfires, pandemics and several other phenomena that we call “natural disasters.”

The more we head into the future without transforming our attitudes to each other and nature—from egoistic to altruistic—then the more we will experience our tightening interdependence negatively.

However, if we start relating in a considerate, supportive and encouraging way to each other, then we will see how nature also relates positively to us. Accordingly, we will unlock a new balanced, harmonious and peaceful existence.

“If your spouse has become too demanding and controlling, what can you do about it?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: If your spouse has become too demanding and controlling, what can you do about it?

Kiss him.

It comes from the principle, “love will cover all crimes.”

Similar to Eastern martial arts, we need to use our opponent’s strength. Therefore, when your spouse bursts into complaints or throws accusations at you, kiss them. By so doing, you disarm them. However, unlike martial artists who wish to defeat each other, you have to act from the bottom of your heart.

You find love by building it atop the hatred and impatience you feel in such situations.
