In the News (MIGNews): “Special Coordinator of the United Nations for the Middle East peace process Nikolay Mladenov said that a peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians can not be achieved against the background of the glorification of terror among the Palestinians and the continuing Israeli settlement activities. In a statement, Mladenov said that Palestinians and Israelis ‘reached the point where many on both sides have lost faith in the commitment to each other in creating a future for the two states, living side by side in peace, security and mutual recognition. In the end, the sad reality for the peoples on both sides of the conflict is that that the things they value most – statehood and security – are escaping them all.’ Mladenov also said that ‘a peaceful future for both peoples can not occur against the background of statements that glorify terrorism and justify murder; mutual respect may not come as a result of stab wounds, shootings and car collisions. Heroes do not kill the sleeping children.’ …

“In the Quartet report, [the UN] said that ‘Israel must stop the policy of settlement construction and expansion, the purposing of land for exclusive use in the interests of Israel and the denial of Palestinian development.’… The report also examines the Palestinian wave of violence, in October that killed at least 214 Palestinians, 34 Israelis, two American. My Comment: While this report was relatively balanced, it is preferable for the UN not to intervene, but first of all to get its house in order. Only then will our neighbors understand that they must agree to the creation of bilateral relationships and not dream of the annihilation of the State of Israel.
