Less And Less Freedom

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Freedom House): “The 2014 World Press Freedom Index spotlights the negative impact of conflicts on freedom of information and its protagonists. The ranking of some countries has also been affected by a tendency to interpret national security needs in an overly broad and abusive manner to the detriment of the right to inform and be informed. This trend constitutes a growing threat worldwide and is even endangering freedom of information in countries regarded as democracies. … This year’s index covers 180 countries, one more than last year.

“Russia (148th) might have been lower in the index had it not been for the stubbornness and resistance shown by its civil society. But the authorities keep on intensifying the crackdown begun when Vladimir Putin returned to the Kremlin in 2012 and are exporting their model throughout the former Soviet Union. From Ukraine (127th, unchanged) and Azerbaijan (160th, -3) to Central Asia, Russia’s repressive legislation and communications surveillance methods are happily copied.”

My Comment: The media has compromised itself with its openness to bribery, so that no one believes in what it conveys. Everyone knows who is behind (pays for) each edition, channel, etc. Therefore, there is no freedom of speech, as there is no truth in what they want to convey. What is sold and conveyed is what is beneficial for their buyers.

In addition, the level of education and erudition of the majority of journalists is far from the level required for the presentation of current information. As a result, no one will suffer from greater restrictions of such media.

Learn To Look At Yourselves From The Side

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: My desire to receive dominates me. How can I look at myself from the side; what enables me to do so?

Answer: This option is already in our Reshimo (spiritual gene). It isn’t by chance that I feel like drawing away from myself and watching myself from the side, although it can be very unpleasant. This desire is already rooted in the Reshimo.

In what vessel do I feel the awakening? In the part that can differ from the animal level in me. It is the Light that comes and begins to differentiate, to peel, my self from my ego, and I feel an awakening, a feeling of elation as a result. I see the world through different eyes and feel it differently.

It is already rooted in the Reshimo itself and the Reshimo comes from an upper level. This is where my work begins: to what extent I can add my exertion to this Reshimo and try to unite with it, in order to see my whole animal level from the side and above it.

I then ask the upper Light for help and begin to understand why all the Kabbalists say that we need a group in order to take an example from them, to adhere to them instead of to ourselves. Make your desire the Creator’s desire and your friend’s desire and serve others instead of serving yourself.

All this stems from the fact that a person has to rise from the animal level to the level of the speaking. In order to do that, I prepare all the means. I establish a mini world, which is the group and the dissemination, and with their help, I draw the Light that Reforms and draw further and further away from my animal so that it demands no more than the basic necessities. Of course, there is a constant struggle, since the further I draw away from the animal, the more it pulls me back so that I will have the opportunity to grow.

All Or Nothing

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why does a Partzuf become “refined” and eject the Light when it receives 20% of the Light and understands that it cannot receive more? Isn’t getting 20% better than not getting anything?

Answer: There are no halfway measures in spirituality: it’s all or nothing. Imagine that you tell your wife that you love her 20%. Can you imagine how she would answer you?

Something like this simply cannot be. In love and bestowal, in giving and in the heart, it is impossible to give part and not the rest. There cannot be compromises here. Compromises can be in everything except for true hatred and true love, which are the Achoraim (back) and Panim (face) of the same adherence.

Question: But we gradually rise and grow. So how is this possible?

Answer: In your gradual ascent, you are always going for broke. You don’t take half or a quarter, rather you invest all of your power or otherwise you won’t rise.

Question: But I am not familiar with the next level.

Answer: This is called going with faith above reason, with your eyes shut. It could be that you will accept 20% of a situation after a calculation, let’s say, Galgalta, but this 20% matches the entire 100% of your powers. If you want to succeed in spiritual advancement or even in corporeal love, without a doubt you need to show that you are giving all of your power to it.

An Exceptional Waiter

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why, when I get the maximum for the sake of bestowal, in the entire next Partzuf, the Light decreases instead of increases: Galgalta, AB, SAG, MA, BON?

Answer: I feel in Partzuf AB what cannot be received in Galgalta because the Creator grew in my eyes, the pleasure grew. I am already stimulated by what I receive from Him.

I had a regular waiter, and suddenly they tell me that he is not a regular waiter, but is the son of the restaurant owner. In this way, from Galgalta I pass to AB.

In SAG they tell me that he is a great scientist and this is just his hobby. And in MA and BON, they tell me that he wants to serve people and so he works as a waiter.

So all the time in my eyes, the pleasure itself isn’t increased, but the giver of the pleasure is. In the end, I see that I cannot respond to him with the same attitude that he shows towards me. The attitude of the Creator becomes more and more apparent to me.

So it is not just that the Light is greater and greater, but NRNHY (Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, Yechida); the Light changes its quality.

Letters On Parchment

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It annoys me when I hear that it is necessary to overcome my condition and accept it with happiness and gratitude. How is this possible in a state of complete powerlessness?

Answer: The first problem is that a person is stuck to his skin. And the Torah is written on parchment. The skin is divided into two layers and the letters of the Torah are written on the inner layer.

The letters are Kelim (vessels) with which we receive the Upper Light. The whole problem is if I am able to differentiate between one skin and another, meaning myself from what I feel. There must be a separation between one and the other. I ask for the Light to come and create a distance, an interval, a range, a division between my “self” and my feelings.

These are two different things. But for a person who is not developed, this becomes a big problem. Many people, like children, get angry at each other, at themselves, and don’t differentiate themselves from their character, their nature. But these are completely different things.

Psychologists differentiate the “self” of a person from his character, from what he is now thinking, in whatever situation he is found. The “self” is a Kli, a machine, a computer, that has its own content, and in a given moment, it can delete all kinds of programs and data and replace them with new ones.

Mature people who have life experience also relate to themselves and to others with forgiveness knowing that everyone has his weaknesses and unpleasant traits. They differentiate the person from his content.

This approach is lacking for people who come to learn the wisdom of Kabbalah. They don’t differentiate themselves, their Kli , from its continuous content. The content may change and I behave and act accordingly. Sometimes I identify myself with this content, with how I was educated, and think that this is me. It follows that the “self” and my ego are inseparable.

But sometimes I get an illumination that helps me differentiate between myself and my ego, my outlook, my perception, my character, and my tastes. I become more objective, both with regard to myself and with the world.

It is necessary to clarify my content with the Light of the Creator and ask for it to be replaced. And then I will not be annoyed when I hear that it is necessary to overcome difficult situations and to try to love the friends. I will look at myself from the side, like an independent expert, and also with what the Torah says. Then I will understand what is filling me at this moment. The Torah will explain to me with what I need to replace my inner contents, to put in a new ink cartridge.

Round-The-Clock Watch On A Ship

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Do we speed up time when we read The Book of Zohar with the right intention?

Answer: We accelerate time the more quickly we clarify the Reshimot (spiritual genes): each one his particular Reshimot and the collective Reshimot together. Within all of us there are particular Reshimot with whose help the collective Reshimot gets its life. With the Reshimot of the group there is a completely different life in comparison to each particular Reshimo that there is in each one of us.

The Reshimot of the group is called the people of Israel, and the particular Reshimot adapt to the shared condition of each one separately. Our advancement essentially depends upon realizing our collective Reshimot. This is like a ship in which some of the people are going to sleep now, and another part begin their watch.

All of them are in all kinds of different states, but the main thing is that the ship sails ahead because those people who must run it are on duty carrying out their work. The same thing also happens in a group: There are those who must rest, there are those who are even a bit idle, because everyone has their own state. But it’s important that those who are awake now and realizing the Reshimot do it responsibly .

But we need to understand that each one has something to do to realize his part in the work. The collective Reshimot is very important, it’s more important than anything, for the Creator doesn’t take account of each one separately, only with the entire ship, with the complete measure which is called a Minyan.

Less than this is not considered at all. If there is no Minyan, this is a sign of not having attained connection with the others, of not having worked enough. All of the work on the ship is to be in connection all the time, which becomes stronger and stronger, and by this the ship goes forward more and more into the depths of the sea. Some go to sleep and some work, but those who are on duty must be responsible, on guard, and concerned for the entire ship. And the collective Reshimot, which is the center of the group, in the heart of the ship, this is what is accepted, and the higher supervision works on us accordingly.

A Physical Model Of Spiritual Ascent

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf I arrange my physical life, my corporeal framework, according to the spiritual framework, meaning that I serve society, serve the world, am involved with dissemination, and am concerned that I have the support that will awaken me, this is called transforming this world into a model of spiritual ascent. I work only so that I will have the opportunity to learn. I learn only to know what to do, to advance towards the goal. It’s written that I need to be in Arvut, to be in a group by my free choice, so I try to carry this out. It’s necessary to disseminate, so I go and disseminate. In that way I make this world a spiritual framework.

The Higher Value Of The Environment

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In order to hold the staff in hand and not let it turn into a snake is it necessary to work on our environment constantly?

Answer: That’s right, but it’s necessary to work on the environment not to hold the staff in hand but because I see my future corrected state in it. This means that the environment is not a means, but has value in itself; it is a higher system.

Within the environment the “staff” and the “snake” are revealed, and also the form of the Bore (Creator), who is called “Bo-Re” (come and see). In the right connection between the friends, the Upper Light begins to be revealed and shine, and we discover the vessel along with the Light.
