Executor Of The People’s Will

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Exodus” (Ki Tissa),” 32:21-33:24: Moses said to Aaron: “What did this people do to you that you brought [such] a grave sin upon them?”

Aaron replied: “Let not my Lord’s anger grow hot! You know the people, that they are disposed toward evil. They said to me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us, because this man Moses, who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ I said to them, ‘Who has gold?’ So they took it [the gold] off and gave it to me; I threw it into the fire and out came this calf.”

Question: Aaron blames the people because they demanded for him to give them a god. However he is a High Priest…

Answer: No, he was not a High Priest at that time nor was he their leader. He was an executor of their will.

Moses is the property of Bina. He leads people forward and shows them the way. Aaron is the one who brings it to the people. That’s why when Moses disappears, the property of Malchut takes over, thus making Aaron obey the people.

What does Aaron’s “collecting women’s jewelry” mean? A woman stands for Malchut and her “ornaments.”

In other words, previously the people of Israel were ready to fulfill the sacred work and “decorate” their egoism with bestowal. At this time, they are ready to give up this work and say goodbye to all “decorations” because they have lost connection with the Creator that is the foundation of their exertions for the sake of bestowal.

This explains why the people fell into egoism: They wanted to hold on to their egoism, like a child who grabs his favorite toy because only when he has it in his hands he feels confident. It is inherent in nature and concurs with nature’s plan.
