The Right Hat

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Can we say that the miracle of Purim symbolizes a certain exception to the absolute rules?

Answer: The slight illumination that appears in the image of Mordecai summons and leads to a great Light; we must first understand that the clarification is by the Light of Hochma and not by the Light of Hassadim. It is the Light of Hochma that separates the items “cutting off” one from the other like a knife: this is good and this is bad, this is one way and that is the other way.

Without Haman, this clarification would be impossible. But Haman has to come by Mordecai. Just as a flashlight is not enough in the dark, it must first be focused on the right spot, which means to prepare the deficiency in advance; Haman must be added to Mordecai so that it will be possible to manage him correctly.

As for the miracle of Purim, it is like the miracle of the exodus from Egypt; if there is no great Light that shines, we cannot connect the vessels. There has never been such a great Light as in Purim, a Light that connects all the ends into the “middle line” and then raises them to the first restriction.

Question: Why was it necessary to kill Haman?

Answer: Haman symbolizes the intention of “in order to receive.” Is it possible to leave this intention alive?

After all, it isn’t about the vessels of receiving which are eternal, but rather about the intention, about how to use Malchut: whether in an egoistic way or an altruistic way, with the intention of in order to receive or in order to bestow. Who will manage the King’s treasure, all of Malchut, in the King’s favor, Mordecai or Haman?

First all my vessels, all my desires, are egoistic “in order to receive” (↓). All this is called “Haman.” On the other hand, “Mordecai” is the intention of only in order to bestow (↑). So we have to change our vessels from one intention to another intention. By that we kill “Haman” and raise “Mordecai.”

At the same time the vessels remain the same, and we only change the “cover,” the “hat,” the intention, which is called the head of the Partzuf. The treasures, Malchut with all its 127 states, remain, but we pass only on the control from Haman to Mordecai.

The Three Components Of The Ascent

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere is a system which in our perception of reality is depicted as the current reality of this world. In it a person has books that were written by Kabbalists in the past, a teacher who is a Kabbalist, friends, the whole world, and the Creator who is concealed, meaning the attribute of bestowal that is opposite from everything a person discovers in his five senses. Except for this attribute, everything is at his disposal.

So how can we use all the means we have correctly, in order to reach the general attribute of bestowal?

It is external to a person, outside his “vessel,” and he can acquire it with the help of three components: books, the group, and the teacher. With their help he fulfills the study, dissemination, and the connection.

The combination of all these things brings a person to turn his vessels, his desires, from receiving to bestowal. He discovers increasingly more egoistic vessels that he turns to “in order to bestow,” according to his efforts and exertion.

What are these efforts and exertion?

A person holds on to the right intention during the study, connects with the friends in the group, and follows the advice of the teacher without which he doesn’t know how to work with the books and the group. On the whole, these three components are called “Torah,” which means a study, a method, a means for attaining the attribute of bestowal.

From that we choose the right actions and the right relations by combining the books the group and the teacher in them. Thus a person reaches oppositeness, by rising “above his reason” above his mind and feelings, towards the next level…

Going At Maximum Speed Without Slowing Down

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What causes the delays in the spiritual work?

Answer: There are delays that are intentionally given to us from Above, but these are not delays along our way but beneficial interruptions called “help against.”

Interruptions that don’t help us to advance are not “help against,” but are actually real delays that a person is responsible for since he is the one who creates them because he does not use the means he was given and doesn’t arrange for the support of the environment. This is the reason for the delays, and so there are beneficial delays and there are delays that hold us back and draw us away from the goal.

A spiritual action doesn’t take long if a person arranges the forces, the means, the environment, and the whole system in advance. Then he responds in “real time,” which means only with the delay that was intended on the part of the Creator taking into account a person’s attributes. Therefore, it is not considered a delay.

Let’s say I was supposed to clarify a certain question in two days since that’s the time it takes for the processes I go through naturally. If I did it in two days, it means that I didn’t cause any delay and that I advanced normally. Therefore, the time of a person’s spiritual correction is called “60 years,” “70 years” or “80 years.”

But if I don’t mobilize all the means I was given in order to respond correctly, then it is I who cause the delay. Then delays can be expressed not only in time, but also in many layers of thoughts and strange calculations in which I wrap myself, and thus become blocked, unable to decipher correctly the Creator’s contact with me. It is as if I become blind and deaf and cannot make the necessary clarifications and thus get stuck in this state for a long time. These are the obstacles that a person creates by himself which prolong his advancement.

So we should constantly hold on to the right environment called “the teacher, group, and books,” which is the only means through which a person can connect to the Creator.

The Art Of Tuning To The Right Frequency

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What can you do if you don’t even feel the initial response to what Baal HaSulam describes here internally?

Answer: In order to feel what Baal HaSulam speaks about we need to be sensitive. This means that if you are on the same frequency the wave is transmitted, then you hear it but if you are on another frequency, you will not be able to receive it.

It is as if you are in a car that is equipped with everything that you need—an antenna and a radio—but if you don’t turn the button and don’t tune the radio to the wave you desire, you will not hear it. Although the wave has already been received by the antenna and entered the radio, it didn’t go through the part in the receiver that is responsible for the identification of the frequency. It is not tuned to the right frequency so that it can be compatible with the frequency that is sent to you.

It turns out that Baal HaSulam writes in a certain frequency and for the time being you cannot perceive it. You can feel sorry about that and think about how you can calibrate yourself and become more sensitive to this frequency, but this doesn’t mean that you have to torture yourself and be unhappy, but rather that you have to be in joy!

Europe Without Religion?

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Rethinking Europe): “International Congress “Rethinking Europe with(out) Religion” 20.2-23.2.2013, Vienna. The International Congress ‘Rethinking Europe with(out) Religion’ reflects on the religious and political transformation processes in European contemporary societies in the context of a growing pluralism. It investigates the political role that religion can play for the unification process of Europe in times of crisis. ‘Rethinking Europe’ is more than an economic challenge. It means searching for ‘a soul for Europe’ (J. Delors). However, it is highly controversial if religion(s) can contribute anything at all to Europe and if so what this contribution may look like.”

My Comment: This is what Kabbalah says. By Kabbalistic definition “Religion is love for one’s neighbor!” Everything else, all the religions and beliefs, are invented by man to evade observing this only law of nature. If Europe accepts this religion, it will survive and prosper; otherwise, it will be lost!

Listening To And Hearing The Teacher

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf a student sees his teacher’s greatness like a Hassid who sees his rabbi, it’s not a good sign. After all, a student has to work in order to see that the teacher is great and to discover that he is important.

On the other hand, if the teacher seems great, does it give me “fuel” to fulfill his advice? This is the criterion according to which I examine my attitude towards him. The real work is in fulfilling what the teacher says in the group, in dissemination, in the study, in a person’s intentions. If I don’t have the power to do so, it’s because the teacher is not important enough for me. How can I see him as more important? After all this is what will ensure my path to the Creator.

For that, I need a group in which I receive the recognition of my teacher’s greatness from the friends, and then I can fulfill what he says. At the same time it is the teacher’s ideas I have to value and nothing but that. Everything else is already “idol worship.” The main thing is the study, the method he teaches and the actions he points out as important for the attainment of the Creator. This is actually what my friends value.

On the whole, the environment can increase the importance of everything, even if it’s a certain kind of tea, the teacher, or the Creator. The desire to receive doesn’t see anything special here; for the desire, there are simple different discernments of pleasures; it examines all the options through the perception of standard understanding, of inner emptiness and filling. The details make no difference, if people around me value tea, then I also value tea, and if people around me value the teacher or the Creator, then a person also sees that the teacher and the Creator are important.

The main thing is that the student would want to listen to what the teacher says and by that the inner partitions, the inner ears, will open. Through them, in the internality of the system, he will hear an inner voice.

The President’s Visit

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why do you say that the importance of the teacher should not be taken for granted by his students?

Answer: Imagine that the president comes to us on a special visit to meet you. He asks us about you and says that he has been looking for a person like you for years until it became clear that you are here. He comes to you with his entourage, shakes your hand, and then you go into the conference room together for a talk after which you come out with illuminated faces, and he gets into his presidential car and departs to the president’s home.

After this visit you carry on as usual with your friends, but we already look at you differently. Whether we want to or not, but we have to be careful. Something new has been created among us and we don’t know how to relate to you, how to behave next to you. You say something and we listen to you skeptically, but we pay careful attention to every word you say. Our attention is focused on you, we already depend on you, our ego is “locked’ on you, and there is nothing we can do about that. This is the natural way of prostration, of reverence, that is a naturally innate part of us.

But this is not the real work. If I want to connect with the Creator and reach an equivalence of form with Him, I have to rise above my nature, to change it into something that is opposite and unknown in its oppositeness. Of course, it will be very difficult to fulfill this since it’s as if I am turning myself inside out, like a glove, going out of my skin, killing myself.

But it can be done easily. Kabbalists say that it isn’t a problem at all. If I have enough fuel, then the whole way can turn into a pleasant adventure, a stroll in the zoo. I will go from one cage to another, from one animal to the next, and correct my desires until I leave the “animal kingdom” as a human being, Adam.

It’s all about the fuel that comes to me in a chain: from the Creator, through the Kabbalists, the teacher, and the friends. So I have to be incorporated in the group in order to be impressed by the friends and to accept what is important to them. It’s the teacher who is important to them, a person whom I actually don’t like, by whom I am repulsed, and to whom I find myself antipathetic. I automatically despise him and don’t see anything in him that I value.

But I understand that all this is presented to me that way intentionally, and so I use these means to examine myself according to the simple criterion: Do I want to listen to what the teacher says and fulfill it? To fulfill what he says not out of an “animal” commitment, but in order to reach the Creator who is behind him.

That’s The Way It Will Be

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Will there come a time when wages will be linked not just to results but to the needs of the worker as with Marx, “To everyone according to his needs”?

Answer: This is the way it will be. However, it will happen when a person is satisfied with normal material needs only, without luxuries. This will be when he no longer receives satisfaction from the thought that he owns factories and businesses. This desire will disappear from within him.

We need to reach this kind of state. Thus, either we have to wait for it or we educate the nation. With the help of integral education, we accelerate the movement and quickly pass through these stages, although we don’t delete them as Russia tried to do by moving from serfdom to socialism bypassing capitalism. That is why Russia is now experiencing a reversal.

The next state of humanity is to provide the normal level of the material and all the rest is spiritual development only.

A maximum of 10% of humanity will work to supply all that is needed: food, clothing, building houses, etc. And the rest can be called, in modern language, unemployed. They will be closely involved with the integral law of nature and together with this will constantly feel a vast emptiness and great, new fulfillments inside. They will gradually cross over to the integral connection between them, will feel the Noosphere (the sphere of human thought),  will develop within them completely new habits, new inner feelings and emotions. They won’t have a need for telephones, cell phones, modems and other computer connections. They will be connected internally.

It is not telepathy that we imagine to ourselves as something supernatural. This is an extra sense that will develop in us under the influence of the integral mutual cooperation between us.

This is so because we constitute a single integral system. Only we don’t feel it. In nature everything is necessarily mutually connected to everything, but these laws are obligatory at the levels of inanimate, vegetative, and animate. And at our level they need to be recognized. And then we will feel the entire universe from one end to the other; we will feel internally how it breathes and lives.
