My Good Environment – Dr. Laitman’s Advice and Principles for the Week

Don’t Give Yourself A Guilt Trip Like A Trapped Thief

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can we learn to hate our evil even more than we do now?

Answer: We will never be able to bring ourselves to hate our own evil or to love goodness. This attitude can only be created within us by the Light that reforms. This is exactly the action it performs.

We don’t need anything besides hatred of evil. We will build everything else above that. And if we come to feel real hatred for evil, which we acquire from the Light, then we relate to that hatred correctly and immediately use it to build our attitude to the Light, to goodness.

I won’t sit there giving myself a guilt trip, wondering why I am so evil. This is not necessary at all because in that case I am simply inside of my ego. This is the wrong approach to using the revelation of evil—like a thief who gives himself a guilt trip for stealing once he has been caught because now he has to suffer for it.

An indication of the right development (with the help of the study, the group, and dissemination) is when I accept the revelation of evil with joy because this enables me to advance. There is a story about Rabbi Akiva who laughed when he saw how the Temple was being destroyed because he perceived this as a sign that the final correction is approaching.

After all, nothing is required besides the revelation of evil. If evil becomes revealed with the help of the right preparation, and if it is used correctly, then we immediately attain goodness.

All goodness is built upon the revelation of evil. Therefore, if a person doesn’t reveal evil like a trapped thief who did not manage to steal for the sake of his egoism, but instead reveals evil in his attitude to the friends and the Creator, then in this revelation of evil he immediately feels opposition—the One who revealed the evil, the Light that reforms. He immediately adheres to the Light and, based on the revelation of that evil, builds the commandment, meaning goes from the consequence to the cause.

“Plus” and “Minus” United By Mutual Work

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn our world love and hatred are two different, contradictory feelings. We cannot unite these two opposites and do not understand that we love one because we hate the other.

But in the spiritual world, they are one. Two opposites unite and it turns out that I love and hate in the same place, meaning reception and bestowal, my separation from the neighbor and my aspiration to him, occur in one location. All of this comes from one condition, one degree, my one state, in which I feel hatred and love in the same place. I perceive these two opposites as one whole.

This is similar to electricity, which is impossible without a plus and a minus. In the spiritual world, a plus and a minus work together above one matter, above one consciousness. On one hand, there is a minus, and on the other, a plus, and I am in the middle. The spiritual world is special because in it, opposites unite!

Therefore, let us unite in mutual guarantee, above all of the differences and disagreements. It doesn’t matter what qualities every person was born with and how he thinks. The most important thing is to unite above all of that. It’s similar to how in the spiritual world, the work is done by faith above reason.

With this approach, we will reach spirituality. And then we will no longer be bothered by our differences, but will use them to reveal greater degrees of unity.

We Demand Our Own Correction!

Dr. Michael LaitmanPeople come out to the demonstrations because they don’t have anything. But all of the corrections can only come from the Light. Today we are already in a global, worldwide process where correction is impossible with the help of any government. They just don’t have any instruments to accomplish that.

The instruments of the new, global world come only with the Light that reforms. It is in our world that we have to realize all of the changes that Kabbalah talks about, and the world will feel and understand in practice how the upper Light influences it through us.

Without that Light, we won’t find a single solution to our problems. We will only draw ourselves into wars so that eventually this path would bring us to reveal the need for the Light. The first thing that the people holding strikes on the streets should be shouting is, “We demand the forces for our own correction!” That’s because uniting with one another is the only way we will receive everything we desire—whether you’re a mother with young children, a senior citizen, or a doctor.

The world has entered a crisis of such proportions that it has nothing to give you! For example, the demonstrators in Greece began with threats. But the government had nothing to give them, and it wasn’t hiding anything. The fact of the matter is that the developmental process is unfolding in order to convince people of the need to start the correction. That is why it is revealing the evil of our existence in this world to us. This is the essence of what is happening today.

The entire world must now understand several new principles. Firstly, we are all connected, and the crisis we are experiencing today is global. The world itself has become global, and we can only come out of the crisis by virtue of unity.

And there is nothing for us to demand from the government. We will receive everything only on the condition that we unite with one another. Just like being in a group, I can only receive its force if I lead it to unity.

The crisis has a higher cause: It is the Light influencing us and revealing the breaking between us. Therefore, not one person in our world has a solution to this crisis.

We solved all of the previous crises by finding a greater means to humor our growing egoistic desire. But today a completely different era has set in. Today the Light is revealing the lack of connection among us. And only be taking certain steps toward establishing that kind of connection will we be able to improve our state. Then every person will receive what he wished—but it will only happen through the attainment of connection, unification, integration, and mutuality.

Therefore, all of the forces that aspire to protectionism, division, and isolation, are aimed against correction, and there is nothing worse than that because by that they move humanity closer to war.

The only thing we need is the Light that reforms. A person who studies Kabbalah attracts the Light with his studies and work in the group, whereas a person who does not study has to attain some kind of understanding and awareness of the situation, the need for unity, mutual guarantee, and brotherhood. That is how we will bring ourselves to goodness.

Everyone has to achieve at least some kind of small understanding of this. But the primary work is incumbent upon those who actively attract the Light because the world receives it through them. Therefore, all of our students have to become even stronger and correct themselves even more so the Light we attract would influence everyone.

This is the predestination of a person called “Israel”—both those living in the state of Israel and all of our students all over the world. Every person whose point in the heart has awakened and who has joined our group, is obligated to think about this.

Where Is The Light Hidden?

Long Live The Non-Indifferent!

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam writes that every phenomenon in the world is valid. That is why we mustn’t destroy or liquidate it, but correct it. However, on this path we must act in an organized manner, without fear and without hiding. The world has entered a phase of development where we must reveal all the cards: our goal, our creed, and our original sources upon which they are based.

It’s all right if people don’t accept it right away, but their hatred for us will compel them to get acquainted with our method. Their non-indifference will serve them well. In the meantime, the world is developing at such a rapid pace that in just a few months they will see that we are right, and they will gradually begin to draw closer to us.

We should make use of this period when they are set against us. Indeed, everyone who isn’t indifferent already has a connection to us. It may be negative, but a connection nonetheless. We know that conflict compels me to study my opponent so as to defeat him, but in the meantime, I’m connected and involved.

The problem lies with those who are indifferent, whereas those who are against us are actually our closest partners. We must relate to them as the revelation of ego in a specific form so that we could correct it.

The New Grammar Of Power

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Javier Solana, the European Union’s former High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, a former Secretary General of NATO, President of the Global Economic and Geopolitical Center ESADE): “Because interdependence exposes everyone around the world in an unprecedented way, governing global risks is humanity’s great challenge. Think of climate change; the risks of nuclear energy and proliferation; terrorist threats (qualitatively different from the dangers of conventional war); the collateral effects of political instability; the economic repercussions of financial crises; epidemics (whose risks increase with greater mobility and free trade); and sudden, media-fueled panics, such as Europe’s recent cucumber crisis.…

“Interdependency is, in fact, mutual dependency – a shared exposure to hazards. Nothing is completely isolated, and “foreign affairs” no longer exists: everything has become national, even personal. Other people’s problems are now our problems, and we can no longer look on them with indifference, or hope to reap some personal gain from them.…

“We must learn a new grammar of power in a world that is made up more of the common good – or the common bad – than of self-interest or national interest. These haven’t disappeared, of course, but they are proving to be indefensible outside of a framework capable of addressing common threats and opportunities.

While the old power game sought the protection of one’s own interests with no concern for those of others, overexposure forces reciprocity of risks, the development of cooperative methods, and the sharing of information and strategies. Truly effective global governance is the strategic horizon that humanity must pursue today with all its energy.”

My Comment: Millions of smart analysts in the world draw correct conclusions: One can govern the world only considering its complete interdependence. But how can we consider it? Who can lead society and the world towards correction, towards an integral (mutually interconnected) state? This person or a group of people must be in such state, meaning be corrected. When the world needs such guides, it will find them.…

Mass Rally On Wall Street

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (From examiner.com): “Activists held a rally at Bowling Green near Wall Street against proposed budget cuts aimed at social programs such as food stamps. Banks and financial institutions were also targeted.

The event was billed as ‘A people’s general assembly,’ and planned by the bloombergville group, which organized a City Hall protest in June of this year.

From the Bloombergville site: ‘The current depression-level crisis is not due to lack of revenue. It’s due to theft. The trillions that the banks are sitting on right now? That’s our money. Whether through taxes; the looting of pension and social security contributions; or the wealth we created from our labor – all of that belongs to us.’”

‘’The general sentiment here is that we think a people’s movement is needed to fight back, so we can take control of the things that affect our lives, every level of government,’ said protester Larry Hales.” (Source: euronews.net)

My Comment: As the world becomes more and more integral—round, interconnected, the power of the government decreases, and the power of the “round” masses becomes more apparent because they are closer and more similar to integral nature.

The objective is correct: to take control over one’s life, but to do this, it is necessary to know the laws that operate in the world today. Due to being ignorant of these laws, the governments and those who will inherent them will make a terrible mistake again. Kabbalah talks about this (see my 3rd lecture in Bremen, Germany).

Economist To The Israeli Protesters: “We Don’t Live In A Magic World”

On The Intricacies Of Taxes

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Many economists suggest turning left toward socialism and raising taxes on capital in the entire world simultaneously. How realistic is this?

Answer: This will not help. Any action that does not facilitate unity among people will turn out to be disruptive. It will show you that you took the wrong course of action. The only action that can be beneficial is one leading to unity.

Today, in order to make any economic and government reform, you need to consider the laws of the integral system. You have to push and pull the world toward integrality, toward unity. This is the only way you can reach success. Otherwise, nothing will work out.

That is why it is not about taxes and laws, but about the approach. By taking money away from the rich and giving it to the poor, are you really strengthening unity? Let’s say you distribute all capital equally and even the rich were left happy. However, the very next day, you will see that what you have achieved is complete failure. On the material level, your reform was large scale and effective, but its spiritual effect has remained zero. This zero will return to you in a negative sense.

Today, the world only needs unity. It must become similar to the Creator. Have you helped it on the path to unity? This is what the whole question is about.

In the worst case, if there is no other way out, people will be led toward unity by means of misfortunes and catastrophes. During a war, everyone unites. This is well known. If you don’t want it the good way, you will be forced in the bad way.

This is the requirement of the forces of nature: Today, you have to be more united with others than yesterday. You haven’t united? Well, then you will be pushed by the corresponding amount. This pressure may appear as poverty or, perhaps, in war, epidemics, and other disasters.

Daily development is defined by the growth in unity that we have reached. This is the only criterion. The actions themselves are not important. The action even may look negative, but if it leads toward unity, its result will bring benefit, at the end of which you will gain a greater correspondence to nature.

Nature nurtures us toward unity either by suffering or by the kind path if you want it. So, taxation on its own has no meaning. The key is to support the mutual guarantee and to build your calculations in the same way that it is done in a family. We need mutual care for the well-being of the home and the world. Then, everything will be in order.

This means that first of all, you need to come to a consensus in the entire nation of those who are interested in the existence of the country including the rich and the poor. You can only move forward by way of education, without any pushing or forcing.

There is a place for everything: religion, beliefs, and the right and left points of view. Let everyone remain with his “heritage.” He must accept only one principle: We are all one family, one nation, and nobody is setting out to kill anyone.

You can have a different point of view than I do, but we still live in one home, and we only have one “pie” for all of us. So, let’s divide it with the maximum benefit for everyone.

Economist To The Israeli Protesters: “We Don’t Live In A Magic World”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Jerusalem Post): “Hebrew University economist challenges housing demonstrators to back up their chants for social justice with economic theory….

“‘We feel like the government started a war on its people,’ activist Stav Shaffir said at a discussion between protest leaders and an economist arranged on Monday morning in Jerusalem. Shaffir is a master’s student in History and Philosophy at Tel Aviv University, and one of the nine original people who pitched a tent with Leef two-and-a-half weeks ago.…

“Among the requests of the demonstrators, explained Shaffir, is a restructuring of income tax brackets and a shift of the definitions of middle class and upper class. For people making more than NIS 1 million per year, they want to raise income taxes from 40 percent to 55%, which would generate an additional NIS 20 billion for social programs, said Shaffir.

“The protesters are also calling for a greater emphasis on income tax, which allows higher incomes to be taxed at a higher rate, rather than on value-added tax. VAT, the 16% tax added on to products and services such as strollers or meals at restaurants, is the same for everyone and is disproportionately felt by the lower classes, said Shaffir.

“‘We want to change the economic system from neo-liberal to a welfare state,’ she said.

“Economist Omer Moav, a professor at the Hebrew University and the Royal Holloway University of London and a former head economic adviser to Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, said he was ‘sympathetic’ with the protesters, but cautioned them ‘we don’t live in a magic world.’ He accused the demonstrators of making grandiose claims without finding ways to pay for their new programs.…

“‘The Israeli economy is not sufficiently competitive,’ said Moav. ‘Prices are very expensive, but the solution to this is more competition. The government needs to allow imports in order to form competing prices,’ he added. ‘If you want a big pie to distribute, you need a market economy, it won’t work any other way.’”

My Comment: I believe that the survival instinct, common sense, and logic will prevail and will not allow the masses to be led by those who want not only to protest and thoughtlessly claim privileges, but also to immediately change the system and even annihilate the state of Israel, like the overseas instigators of these protests.

Nobody Wants To Pay For The Market (The EU Market)

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Gideon Rachman, Financial Times columnist): “Europe has bought itself time with its €750bn bail-out for the euro. But the long-term problem remains.

“Most of the European Union is living beyond its means. Government deficits are out of control and public-sector debt is rising. If European governments do not use their new breathing space to control spending, financial markets will get dangerously restless again. Unfortunately, European voters and politicians are simply unprepared for the age of austerity that lies ahead….

“Yet if Europeans do not accept austerity now, they will eventually be faced with something far more shocking – sovereign debt-defaults and collapsing banks. For many Europeans that is the kind of thing that only happens in Latin America.…

“The growth in the size and power of the EU has fed a dangerous sense of complacency.… Once they [the countries] were inside the EU, it was felt that war, dictatorship and poverty were safely consigned to the past. Everybody could aspire to the relatively comfortable, stable lives of the French and the Germans.”

My Comment: This has been long in the past. A grudge existed initially because no one wants to pay the debts of others; the “war of nerves” is constant, which has no place in a single organism. Tension (an abscess) is brewing, which can cause aggression (the opening of the wound). We shall see this in the near future. The EU has to be brought to a complete unification which is possible only through educating the population for a long time, or it is better to separate peacefully now before the bloodshed of a third world war begins.
