Prepare Your Heart For A Spiritual Gift

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is there a distinction between men and women with respect to preparing for the World Kabbalah Convention 2010?

Answer: There isn’t any difference in preparation. We must prepare our hearts. We should know the congress schedule, topics of all the lectures, seminars, discussions, and cultural programs in advance, and we should learn all the songs. Let us anticipate a spiritual gift!

If we prepare ourselves at the corporeal level and know everything in advance, then it is all for the best. We will open our hearts to the internal surprise, to the revelation of the connection between us, men and women alike. And then, the Creator will be revealed between us. Amen!

Independent Analysis

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In order to feel the Creator, I need something external, the connection between us, and not my “self.” If this is so, then why did He create me as such?

Answer: He did it so that from this form, exactly as you are with all your predetermined qualities, you would start analyzing, examining, studying, and learning who the Creator is independent from Him. Right now you exist outside the system of the spiritual world. Hence, like an independent researcher, you can embark on finding the Creator.

For this purpose, we exist in our world, completely cut off from the spiritual system, even its impure part. My job here is to conduct an independent investigation (analysis). From any spiritual level, I always can return to this form, in my body, in order to ascend again and continue my exploration of the spiritual path.

This world is important since in it I seem to be independent. I exist at the animate level and, thus, I do not see the Creator and am cut off from the spiritual phenomena. When I desire to become human, I enter the spiritual system, and if I don’t, I return to the animate state once again.

Thus, I have an opportunity to exist on two levels: animate and human. Hence, the Psalms say: “Lord preserves both man and beast.”

The Imprint Of The Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we, in our correct interconnection, get to know the Creator?

Answer: There is a vessel, and there is the Light. The Creator can only be revealed in the vessel, in the creature. The creature is a will to receive (a desire), which can experience good or bad feelings, the presence of something or the lack thereof.

On the other hand, the Creator is an attitude. To know the Creator means to learn His attitude to us. And what we must get to know is not Him Himself, but specifically His attitude dressed in the matter or the Light clothed in the vessel. The Light becomes clothed in the vessel when the latter acquires its property.

What is the Light in its essence? We don’t know. But clothing of the Light means that it imprints itself in the vessel. For this, the Kli should be “soft” or, in other words, should feel the lack and desire the Light. After all, the Light leaves an imprint in the vessel, opposite to itself, and the vessel must decipher this contradiction in the reverse direction, returning from negative to positive in order to understand the Light.

Therefore, we need to equip our will to receive pleasure with a restriction (a screen) and an intention (the Reflected Light). We can feel and correctly interpret the Light along with its forming the screen and the Reflected Light in us. As a result, we feel our own form, but it is the Light that created it in us, and this is why we call its form the same name, the name of the Light.

In the same fashion, HaVaYaH is the form of the created being named after the Creator. This is the only way for us to know Him, through the form, while the essence of the Creator remains unattainable for us.

Kabbalists About The Concealed Torah And The Revealed Torah, Part 3

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Attainment of the Torah Begins with “Sod” (Secret) and Ends with “Peshat” (Literal)

Great merit is required in order to understand the Peshat of the texts [that speak about bestowal and love], since first we must attain [in our correction] the three internal parts of the Torah, which the Peshat [the last, simple, and completely disclosed understanding of the Torah] robes, and the Peshat will not be parsed. If one has not been rewarded with it [complete understanding], one needs great mercy [of the Creator], so it [his studies of the Torah] will not become a potion of death for him [if he studies it for his own sake].

It is the opposite of the argument of the negligent in attaining the interior [of the Torah or Kabbalah, and, therefore, called the “negligent”], who say to themselves: “We settle for attaining the Peshat [simple understanding of the Torah]. If we attain that, we will be content.” Their words [that stem out of their misunderstanding and thus] can be compared to one who wishes to step on the fourth step without first stepping on the first three steps.

Two Levels Of Mutual Guarantee

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhoever has a desire that aims straight at the Creator realizes that the Creator is concealed inside the right interconnection between the souls. This connection develops in the group through two phases:

1. Ascent to the level of Bina, Hafetz Hesed, where a person feels like he is a messenger acting above knowledge.

First he attains the fact that he is ruled by egoism. How can he get out of this trap? He can do it with the help of an example that can only be received from the environment.

If a person accepts this example above his mind and feelings, this is called “above knowledge.” If he acts together with the group and contrary to himself, then he is making the right action, one that’s aimed at attaining and correcting the breaking. That is how one achieves spiritual ascent.

By adopting values from the environment instead of my own values, thoughts, and calculations, I evoke the influence of the Light upon myself because my actions correspond to the quality of the Light. Therefore I evoke the Light through the environment or through the system in which I restore unity.

That is how a vessel gradually forms inside me called “Hafetz Hesed” or “above knowledge.” As a result I use only the quality of bestowal, the force of bestowal, or the vessel of bestowal.

What does this mean? The mind and feeling are not mine. I replaced mine with those of the group and thus I am the friends’ messenger to the Creator. I accept and carry out everything they value.

It makes absolutely no difference to me what is inside the “package” and why it is being sent. I have just one concern: to reject myself and carry out their desire. That is how I ascend to the first level of mutual guarantee.

2. After that I desire to take a more active role that’s not limited by the functions of a messenger. I discover that I can become an intermediate link: not merely transmitting what I was given, but independently attracting and transmitting the Light.

This is the second phase – the return through love, above Bina. That’s when I reveal the illumination of Hochma and pass it on to others in the same net that I built on the level of Bina. I fulfill others with everything I am able to receive from them and then I begin to feel the goal of creation.

Through this work I attain the Creator and that there is none else besides Him. In the end I acquire the aspiration “straight toward the Creator” and become a guarantor for others.

A Good Fate

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen a person is awakened, he is led to the group where he starts to realize that his choice lies in unification with others, and that the Creator “has placed his hand on a good fate.” In other words, a person has to unite with the correct environment, and receive from it spiritual values in order to work in the best manner from the point of view of the friends. That is what is called “a good fate.”

If I act in accordance with my own mind and emotions, it harms me since it doesn’t aim me at the spiritual goal. However, if I act in accordance with the values of the environment, constantly examining myself in relation to my connection with the friends, then I gain the good fate offered to me by the Creator.

My choice, my self-analysis, with every step I make lies in to what extent I lower my head and accept the power of the group’s opinion over mine. Having accepted it once, I permanently accept the friends as my guides, feeling that I am last in line, following them.
